The great thing about owning a brewery is that when times get rough at least you have your own beer in which to drown your sorrows.... Well, times aren't that rough, but it is still nice.
We are having filter troubles again... We have cleanest, prettiest, microbrewed organic ale and it is mostly due to this ancient filter and its wild diotamaceous earth filters that are luckily still manufactured, but not likely to arrive at our doorstep for another 7 -10 weeks. Whoa is me... We ordered the next micron level down and even our experiments in doubling them up proved unworthy. The beer is cloudy. Our beautiful, crystal clear pale ale is cloudy. Bummer. Back on the phone tomorrow with the filter folks in New York. There has to be a solution... like most everything in the brewery, there are always more ways than one to get the job done.
Sales are still booming - kegs seem to be walking out the door. We had a visit from the well-spoken feature writer of our local newspaper today, Peggy Townsend. What a treat. Look for word about the brewery in Sunday's edition of the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
We are gearing up for another busy weekend. Lisa will be working her usual Friday Farmer's Market Frenzy and "Mom and Dad" and Scott will be covering on Saturday while the rest of us are at the Monterey Beer Fest... 'Save the Ales!'
Back to drowning your own sorrows in your very own beer... it works wonderfully. Just don't drink and blog. And seeing as how we rarely have time or energy left to make dinner anymore - nothing is better than a fried egg sandwich on Kelly's SourCheddar with ripe tomato, red onion and a good mustard. It goes well with SCMB Pale...
