'Beer for People, Not for Profit!'

That is from an article I read in The New Brewer and that is about how we feel - with one exception... not only is there no profit, but there isn't even beer for the people yet!

There is a great article in The New Brewer about "Saving the World with Craft Beer." I read through most of it without realizing that it was written by one of the members of Seven Bridges, Chris O'Brien. It is an excerpt from his book that is coming out later this year about Craft Brewing. The article refreshed my memory to a chapter in The Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki. He writes that the only way to have a successful business is to start it with the right attitude. That attitude should NEVER be, "I want to start this business because it is going to make a ton of money," but rather, "I want to start this business because it is going to Change the World!" And that it shall!

So, back to the non-profit status. Not only are we not making a profit, but it will be awhile before we get out of this hole we are digging for ourselves... but that is another of the beauties of starting a business. Our biggest concern of course, 'Beer for the People!' When will we ever get to brew?

Well, the good news is that we passed our building inspection with flying colors... another step closer to boiling up that first batch of wort. The bad news is that we can't start brewing without our Federal Registration, and that is still in the works. We have been waiting on that for 45 days and they say it usually takes between 45-60 days, so anyday we should get that. When it comes, we will be ready!

More good news, our shirts are being printed and they look amazing! Organic cotton - and really crisp colors. Looking good. We may not have beer, but we have merchandise!

Dan, Seven Bridges' resident, trained brewer is back from his travels abroad! The best news of our day... Now if we could find some money to hire him.

We realized today that we had been blasting Kelly and Mark Sanchez out of their office with the stereo from our computer. I guess the way the building is - the music from our office is amplified in their office. Whoops... Sorry guys! I have heard that loud raucous can make rising bread fall... Oh no.

Well, back to keg washing. If we have to spend 8 hours per keg in labor is it worth the savings? :) You bet.
